Start with the things that actually matter
Starting guitar can be exciting for about five minutes and confusing for the next five months. There are thousands of videos telling you what you could learn, but very little telling you what you should work on first.
My beginner guitar lessons in Dublin are designed to remove that guesswork. We build a small number of useful skills in the right order and make sure each one is working before piling something else on top.
You do not need any experience
You do not need to know chords, scales or music theory before your first lesson. You also do not need to prove that you are “musical”. We start with what you can do now and work forward from there.
If you are starting guitar as an adult, you may also want to read about my guitar lessons for adults in Dublin. The important thing is that the plan fits your life and gives you something realistic to practise between lessons.
What we build first
- Comfortable fretting and picking technique
- Basic chords and cleaner chord changes
- Rhythm, strumming and keeping time
- Simple fretboard knowledge so the instrument makes more sense
- Songs and musical examples that use the skills you are learning
- A practice routine you can actually follow
Acoustic or electric is fine
You can learn on either instrument. If you already know which direction you want to go, I have separate pages for acoustic guitar lessons and electric guitar lessons. If you are not sure yet, that is not a problem. We can build the same core foundations first.
Private lessons let me fix problems early
Small things matter at the beginning. Hand position, tension, timing and the way you practise can either make the next stage easier or create problems that have to be undone later. In a one-to-one lesson I can spot those things quickly and explain them in a way that makes sense.
You can read more about how that works on my private guitar lessons in Dublin page.
Progress should be obvious
I do not expect beginners to improve overnight. I do expect you to know what you are working toward. Over time, chord changes should become easier, rhythm should feel steadier and the guitar should feel less awkward in your hands.
