GET TO KNOW ME...
Ross was born Luis Aviles, born March 10th 1981 in a small village in the south of Spain called Torreperogil. He is a Spanish guitarist, composer and teacher currently living in Ireland. At the age of 9 on the way home from school, Ross was amazed and captive by the local musical marching band, he was so impressed by the lively music he decided from that moment on he would someday become a musician. Nobody in his family played an instrument, so he then joined the local music school where he achieved a five year competency level in only two years. Because money was hard to come by at the time he spent one more year without even owning his own instrument. When Ross turned 12 he moved to Barcelona and somebody gave him his first guitar. It was a fourth hand classic guitar with plenty of holes in the body and just five strings, but despite this he knew music theory yet he did not know how to apply this to the guitar. So he joined a guitar lesson class in his school, where he learned to play a few chords, and something weird called Blues and Rock. He started practicing Classic guitar for one year until one of his friends (Caste) played him a song called “nothing else matters” by Metallica. Ross started saving his money for five months and he bought his first ever 2nd hand electric guitar and a 15W amp, which he put great use learning to play all the Metallica songs he could. Ross continued to attend lessons from a number of different guitar “teachers”, but it was frustrating, he spent all his time and money watching how well they could play rather than them teaching Ross. He decided from then on to become his own teacher and to evolve and shape himself into his own style. When Ross was 16 he went to some music store and saw a cd cover with a brilliant design of a Fender guitar on fire, the album was by Yngwie Malmsteen, Ross bought it and went home right away to play it, he was blown away by the song entitled “Now your ships are burned”. He decided from that day on, to start practising guitar seriously. Ross was also influenced by many talented musicians he met and played with during his teen years in Barcelona, he was most impressioned by the owner of a local music store, Toni. Toni introduced Ross to the likes of Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Nuno Bettencourt, and the styles of Bebop, Jazz and Funky as well as having a fully eclectic interests. Ross was convinced with so much great music and so many great musicians past and present, that he had to come up with an idea for something new, in order to make this new sound, Ross decided to build and make his own guitar, he learned as much as he could from books and the internet and after one year Ross had his first self made electric guitar. He continued his interest in Music and instruments, teaching himself the Piano, Saxophone, and Orchestration, all shapes and sizes of guitars and how to motivate and teach students. Ross now blends a high level of technique and knowledge with a passion for awaking the feelings inside the people who listen to his music. Most of all Ross biggest enjoyment is working and teaching his own successful style to new an old students of music. At this point in time Ross, teaches guitar lessons (at music schools and private lessons) and record music , always having time to play a little chess with his friends and do web design. |
